Local imagination helping shape the future of Whitehouse Street Plaza

East Bedminster residents have shared ideas for a new public square at the junction of Whitehouse Street and Princess Street. 

On Thursday 19 June, three design workshops brought together local residents, community groups and stakeholders to explore plans for Whitehouse Street Plaza. 

People used augmented reality technology to see how different ideas could look in the space. The Future Places augmented reality platform showed possible features, layouts and improvements over the existing street, helping residents picture how the new public square could feel and work. 

The workshops were well attended by local residents, community stakeholders and WECIL (the West of England Centre for Inclusive Living). They shared their aspirations for a public square that is welcoming, vibrant, accessible and reflective of the community.    

The ideas and feedback from the workshops will help develop the next stage of designs. This will support future planning, infrastructure proposals and funding opportunities. 

The workshops are part of the wider Whitehouse Street regeneration programme, which aims to create safer, greener and more inclusive places for people to live, work and spend time.
