An update on Heat Network works on Whitehouse Lane

Works have begun to finalise the connection of underground pipes between Windmill Hill City Farm and Whitehouse Lane for the Bristol Heat Network.

During the majority of works the footway and cycle path on the northern side of Whitehouse Lane is closed from 11 August to 12 September 2025. However, to enable the connection of pipes to be undertaken safely, a section of the road outside Family Cars on Whitehouse Lane will be closed from 23 August to 6 September 2025.

There will be no through-traffic along Whitehouse Lane, however, access to businesses will be maintained, using traffic marshals stationed at Hereford Street/Malago Road, Whitehouse Lane, and Whitehouse Street and Phillip Street junction.

Traffic exiting from Windmill Hill will not be permitted due to the closure along Whitehouse Lane. All vehicles must exit via Paultow Road or Brendon Road.

Contractors will be working seven days a week to enable the works to be completed as quickly as possible and help minimise disruption.

Once these works are completed, the final phase of improvement works to Whitehouse Lane will take place. These include:

  • resurfacing of Whitehouse Lane (using overnight road closures)
  • installing a raised crossing point (at the same level as the pavement) at Philip Street and Clarke Street junctions
  • painting of all road and cycle path markings including parking and loading bays, yellow lines and give way markings
  • installing remaining road signs and streetlights
  • placement of final bollards to prevent obstruction of the footway with parked vehicles and signs for the parking bays
