Investigation works for the installation of the heat network to begin on Bedminster Green and Clarke Street
On Monday 12th May, Vattenfall will complete ground investigation works to check the proposed route for the next phase of the Bedminster heat network. These works will check whether the future installation of heat network pipework is viable.
The team will be exploring two areas. One location is on a public footpath on Clarke Street South and the other work area is within Bedminster Green. The ground investigations will happen consecutively in each area, requiring a few days per location.
No new pipework is being installed and the area will be returned to its original condition.
Why is this work required?
To install the heat network, Vattenfall need to create a tunnel underneath the surface of the Green and install buried pipework to join the existing heat networks along Whitehouse Lane and Dalby Avenue.
Other routes, via Providence Place and Hereford Street, were not possible for construction due to there already being a high concentration of existing pipes in the road, some of which are not possible to move. Other routes also lack trench depth which is required for the installation of the buried pipework.
How will this impact Bedminster Green?
Vattenfall has taken a Lease of Rights over Bedminster Green from Bristol City Council to carry out the works and have rights of access for the future operation of the Bedminster heat network.
The council will still have ownership of Bedminster Green. Once the pipes are installed, the Green will be restored, maintained as usual and full access will be given back to the public.
